EON Pamphlet EXPRESSING OUR NATURE

Who We Are

We are a non-profit community service organization for the Transgendered Community in Upstate N.Y. We offer Advocacy, Support, Friendship and Personal Growth for FTMs, MTFs, Crossdressers, Transsexuals, their Friends and Families.

What We Do

We offer safe meetings twice a month for support and a place for TG people to meet others like them. We also offer speakers for classes and events that are interested in learning about the TG community.

Who Is TG?

TG stands for Transgendered, and refers to those individuals who feel that they do not fit into society's concept of their birth gender. Transgendered people can fall anywhere from males or females who crossdress in clothing of the opposite sex, to someone who has surgery to change their body to the gender they feel mentally.

Who is TS?

TS stands for Transsexual. Transsexuals are people who feel they are mentally not the sex they were physically born as. Some transsexuals chose to crossdress full time, while others take hormones and even have surgery to transform their bodies externally into the opposite sex.

Who are MTFs and FTMs?

MTFs are male-to-female transsexuals. They are people who are born physically male, but feel internally that they are women. FTMs are female-to-male transsexuals. They are people born physically female, but internally feel they are male.

Who Are CDs?

Crossdressers are people of one sex that dress as a member of the opposite sex. For example, a male who dresses in female clothing is a crossdresser.

What's The Difference Between MTF/FTMs and CDs?

The difference between a transsexual and a crossdresser is that transsexuals feel they are really a member of the opposite sex, while crossdressers happily live as their birth sex most of the time. Crossdressers do not wear clothing of the opposite sex all of the time. They do not take hormones or have surgery to change their external sex.

Why Are There So Many Acronyms?

The acronyms shorten the amount of space my typing takes up. Really, they are just a way to shorten all of the words and terms that float around in the transgendered community. Trying to describe the different groups can be a mouthful. This is by no means a complete list of the various gender identities present in our community.

How EON Began

EON started out as a group for straight male crossdressers and their partners. They originally met in each other's houses for monthly meetings. The group has evolved much over the years. Today, we welcome all TG people, however they identify themselves. New members are always welcome. There is a small core group that regularly attend meetings, and a larger group of members that attend when they can make the drive. Our members come from all over CNY, from Rochester, Ithaca and Horseheads, as well as Syracuse and it's surrounding areas although, we have visitors from as far away as Pennsylvania and Toronto.

How Can EON Help You?

We work mainly as a support group, but that is not all that we offer. EON also has an email mailing list that is an excellent resource for information and support. Our webpage has an up to date calendar which lists our meetings, as well as community events of interest. Meeting times and directions are also listed. We have a chat room available through our Yahoo Group for all members who care to use it. Many of our members belong to other TG groups, and occasionally coordinate events between them.
